'for Aaron and Haley' was commissioned by my friend and fellow musician, Ryan Clure, in celebration of his brother's wedding. Ryan wrote both Aaron and Haley musical fragments that I incorporated into this quartet. In the beginning they are just motifs, not whole on their own. Aaron's motif is upward and leaping, where Haley's is downward and more soulful. As the piece progresses, the two motifs come to work together, revealing a longer theme that is built on their two individual motifs. The piece concludes warmly, with the full reprise of their 'together; theme. Their music only resolves when they are finally interwoven, ending peacefully.
