Program

'anima' is about an awakening, the emergence of a sudden surge of power. The piece opens wildly with a blast from the timpani and gong. The timpanist is featured in soloist passages that lead to an explosion of string harmonics. This rumbling continues until a static and still place emerges. The smallest of sounds become important here, juxtaposed with sudden bursts of sound. The opening tumult returns before the piece slithers quietly back into the abyss.
