cello solo, 5 cellos, percussion
June 18th, 2017
at the Fresh Inc Festival at Bedford Hall, University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
This piece is the 4th installment of the Shrine series. This piece has to do with the devastating impact of landfills. The first portion of the piece has an optimistic tone, depicting wide vast landscapes and potential. Towards the middle there is a souring of mood. The piece begins to flow towards an alarming episode involving tubular bells and clustered glissandi. After the climax, the piece takes on a stranger tone as a small song is played by the solo cellist and marimbist as the cello ensemble floats uneasily in the background.
